2013 Skihawks Racing Team
“live your dreams…help the Skihawks live theirs!”
To The Skihawks Racing Team Family,
We are reaching out to you now to ask for your support in helping us raise $40,000 to support Skihawks athletes in all three winter disciplines: downhill skiing, Nordic skiing, and snowboarding. As you may know, the Skihawks are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving 74 individuals and 85+ coaches/volunteers from across the Puget Sound region. The mission of the Skihawks Racing Team is to provide education, training, and competitive opportunities for individuals with developmental challenges in Alpine, Nordic, and Snowboarding disciplines.
For going on 32 years the Skihawks Racing Team has been 100% managed by volunteers. Its operations have been sustained through many generous contributions from family members, coaches/volunteers, and friends that make up our special Skihawks family of supporters. In just two years, the auction has become our primary fundraising event and community builder. Through its proceeds we have significantly increased the amount of financial assistance we can provide our athletes, many of whom live at or below the poverty level and cannot afford extracurricular programs like skiing or summer camping. But the demand for supplemental funding is increasing and our athletes need us to stay ahead of that curve. So we are appealing to you, our closest friends, to support the "Livin' the Dream" auction in one or more of these diverse ways:
© Attend the auction! We will let you know when tickets are available in the near future.
© Spread the word about the auction and what the team is about. Tell your friends, family, work friends, and invite them to purchase tickets.
© What items can you donate for the SILENT or LIVE auctions? Donations along the value spectrum are needed. A small item can be used to make up a great package. Do you have professional skills that others might appreciate? Tax preparation, legal expertise, mechanical services, house cleaning, landscaping, ski lessons? Perhaps you have a talent like quilt making, scrap booking, photography? Do you have the resources to share a condo in a sunny or winter location, a bed & breakfast getaway, dining, hotel stays… the list is endless and I know many of you have access to unique, one-of-a-kind items.
© Reach out to friends, family members, work friend, local business to involve them in some auction element. Auctions are a great way to advertise, expose a business, and/or solidify new community connections.
© We will be doing the WINE GRAB again this year. Donate a bottle (with a minimum value or $15) or a case of wine (or more) for the wine grab. We especially need some wines with higher values. You can also donate CASH and we will take care of purchasing the wine for you. If you are having a summer party, ask your guests to donate a bottle of wine to a great cause as the price of admission to your get together. If you know someone in the wine business, approach them for a donation.
© In kind donations are gratefully accepted such as printing services, paper, ink, wine to be served at the auction, etc.
© If you don’t have anything that you can donate or are unable to ask others, you can make a cash donation that we can use to augment donations or help defray event costs and maximize net profit.
© We also need help with auction tasks such as administrative tasks, help with registration, check out, food service, setting up auction displays, cleaning up after the auction. If you would like to help in this way, please respond to me (information below) and we can identify ways you can help.
For the above involvements and more, the Skihawks provide all auction supporters and donors with the appropriate receipt(s) for a tax-deductible contribution.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and consider how you might be able to participate in the auction. Please call Susan Simpson-Fox at (206)935-0224 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know how you can help!
With gratitude from the Present and Past Team Captains of the Skihawks Racing Team,
